Function First!

In my opinion, function is the name of the game and always comes first regarding kitchen and bath design. Certain things just are what they are and because of their function, the basic shape of it really doesn’t change… but the look, feel, and mood it sets can be very different. A good example is a cabinet knob. A knob is a knob is a knob, whether it’s shaped like a frog, a fleur-de-lis, or a simple round knob. But the look is very different, and those differences are what make each design unique and tailored to each client. I found some great examples of everyday functional kitchen and bath items that are striking in the way they are different.

Take a look at the DecoSwirl Style Drain by California Faucets. Just because a drain is a drain, why can’t it have a cool shape? Wouldn’t that put a smile on your face during your morning ablution?

And take a look at that Italian bathtub – the Novellini Cristal I Bathtub, fashioned from clear safety glass panels. Those crazy Italians. You wouldn’t catch this German-Czech heritage gal soaking in a fishbowl! There ain’t enough bubbles in the world…

But here’s something that appeals to my sensible nature – the Delta Touch2O Technology faucet. Got your hands covered in raw chicken? No problem! Just touch the faucet with your elbow to turn it on.
