The Smoke Chair

My husband has never been a fan of distressed furniture. Why pay extra for something that we will do for free ourselves? It’s a safe bet that he wouldn’t embrace this chair… but I have. It’s called the Smoke Chair and it is part of a small series by designer Maarten Baas. The series includes an armchair, dining chair and chandelier. Each piece is produced by burning the chair and then preserving the wood in a clear epoxy coating. The chairs are then upholstered in black leather. As you can imagine, the pieces are all unique—this can’t be a tightly controlled process!
I love the descriptive quote by Brandon Thomas Baunach:
“I would compare it’s appearance to a lizard wearing a leather coat.”
