Little Free Libraries
By Lisa June 3rd, 2013
Last summer, my husband and I were eating ice cream cones from Grand Ole Creamery and walking down the neighborhood streets. We walked past what looked like a large mailbox that was full of books – a neighborhood library it seemed. I was enchanted. This winter, Sparrow & Stoll was working on a project in Minneapolis and I saw another one! Great ideas spread apparently. These symbols of neighborliness really made me think about what makes a house a home on the outside. I have since learned that they are part of a network called Little Free Library (littlefreelibrary.org). The concept is easy: take a book, leave a book. The company is based in Hudson, Wisconsin but there are Little Free Libraries all over the world! Check them out. Become a steward. Donate. And don’t forget the ice cream!
