What Happened to Feng Shui?

I’m not sure why – and maybe it’s just my perception – I never hear anything about Feng Shui anymore. Not that I was an expert or anything, but I thought some of the basic tenets just made good, common sense in an “aha, interesting” sort of way. So I have taken it upon myself to dig out my old Feng Shui notes to give everyone (including myself) a refresher:

1. The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in the house. It is where we connect with the energies that nourish us physically and emotionally. We are reminded to see the kitchen as a place where we receive blessings and express gratitude for the gifts of life, health, and prosperity. I love that.

2. A bathroom door should not be placed across from the kitchen entryway. It can stimulate stomach and intestinal problems or can result in a depressed state of mind. I’m not too sure of that, but regardless, it’s gross.

3. Bathrooms are a place of purification and cleansing, so a clean sanitary bathroom strengthens and supports this important energy. This is where you begin and end the activities of the day, so the more attractive and inviting you can make it, the better. (For assistance, call Sparrow and Stoll.)

4. Create a positive bathroom layout by locating the toilet so that it is not immediately visable when you open the bathroom door. The best place for a toilet is behind the bathroom door or behind a wall that makes it invisible from the doorway. We have remodeled many bathrooms to make the toilet not immediately visible.

5. A large and spacious kitchen with bright light is favorable and portends wealth for the family.

6. It is auspicious for the stove to be located in a command position in the kitchen which enables the cook to see anyone entering the kitchen. The cooks standing position greatly determines the quality of the energy he or she puts into the food. Aha, interesting.
